Patricia A. Legh-Jones, age 89 and resident of Green Country Retirement Village, passed away in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Patricia Ann "Pat" Clingenpeel was born on September 19, 1927 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James Gideon Clingenpeel and Leona Jewel Brock. She began her elementary education in Stillwater and completed one year at Oklahoma A&M (now OSU). She left there to attend secretarial school and on to Shell Oil Company, Ltd., in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1950, Pat married Peter Edward Legh Legh-Jones in Tulsa and they had daughter, Kathryn Ann and son, George Edward Legh. As a Shell executive, Peter was transferred first to New Orleans, then to Calgary, Alberta; New York City, New York, back to Calgary and finally to Toronto, Ontario. They ultimately returned to Peterborough, Ontario. In each transfer, Pat joined a church and participated in secular groups. In Calgary, she began curling and rapidly became Skip of her team. While in Toronto, Pat was instrumental in writing the Toronto YWCA letters of incorporation. She went back to school at the University of Toronto and took several theological courses. She was a stalwart of Rosedale United Church Women and assisted Peter with his involvement with the Boy Scouts of Canada. In Peterborough, Pat co-founded both the Peterborough Guild of Embroidery and the Peterborough Guild of Folk Artists. She and Peter joined St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where they were involved with the choir, liturgy and financial committees. She believed in stewardship of the environment and contributed to the Sierra Club and the WWF (Worldwide Wildlife Fund). Pat loved her family. She made regular visits to Oklahoma to see her mother, brother and sister-in-law and frequently brought her mother-in-law, Gwen Legh-Jones, to spend summers in Canada. She adored her grandchildren and made significant contributions to their welfare and education. Music and art were life-long passions for Pat. She studied piano and voice as a child and took up piano again in Toronto. She enjoyed reading, classical and theatre music, cooking and card games, especially Bridge. Pat is survived by her daughter, Kathryn, of Peterborough, Ontario and four grandchildren: Sarah Anne White, Robin Peter Chalmers, Hannah Louise Legh-Jones and Alison Rebecca Legh-Jones; her brother, James Millard Clingenpeel and his wife, Georgia Samantha; and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Louise Legh-Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Peter Legh-Jones and her son, George.
