Patsy Short

January 19, 1921 — March 15, 2011

Patsy ("Pat") E. Short, a longtime Bartlesville, OK resident, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. Pat was born January 19, 1921 in Temple, OK, the daughter of Earl Jennings McGlathery and Ada Mae (Bridges) McGlathery. Pat grew up and received her elementary and secondary education in Seminole, OK, graduating at the youthful age of seventeen with the Seminole High School class of 1938. Pat continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. It was at the University of Oklahoma, where Pat met and fell in love with her husband, Kenneth R. Short. Pat and Kenneth were united in marriage on December 21, 1941. Kenneth served as an officer in the U.S. Army, 3rd Armored Division, during WWII from 1941 to 1945 and continued his service through the Army Reserves attaining the rank of Major before his discharge in 1952. During this time, Pat was left with the responsibility of raising a young family. It was through the support, love and encouragement of Pat, Kenneth was able to complete his BS degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, Kenneth was employed with Phillips Petroleum Co. until his retirement in 1984. Working for Phillips afforded the Short Family the opportunity to travel extensively. No matter where they resided, Pat always found time to teach and encourage others, either through the school system, through her music or simply with her life. An accomplished musician, Pat brought music to life. She also brought life to music. Pat's family will always remember the eloquent way she moved about the piano and organ and how her skill level and performance were unmatched. Pat was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bartlesville, Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority for Women Educators, plus many bridge clubs and various organ and piano clubs. Pat and Kenneth, Sr. were also recognized in "Who's Who of Bartlesville" in 1966-67. Although Pat received many awards throughout her life, as a musician and respected citizen, it was her family she regarded as her greatest accomplishment. Pat is survived by: her son, Kenneth R. Short, Jr. and his wife Carole of Bartlesville, OK; her daughter, Karen Ann Short of Bartlesville, OK; Two grandsons: Kenneth R. Short, III and his wife, Maria Elena of Burke, VA and Martin J. Short of Bartlesville, OK; Philomena Short, of Burke, VA, mother of Pat's two grandsons; her brother, Gerald D. McGlathery of CA and numerous other family members and dear friends.
