Percy Christie was born September 29, 1926 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to Arch and Lydia (Grubb) Christie. He went to be with his Lord on August 29, 2010. Percy married Betty Jean Rafferty on March 4, 1948, in Monnett, MO. He was a member of Welders & Pipe Fitters Local out of Muskogee and worked in construction until he was called to service in May 1952. Percy was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, in the 1st Marines Item Co. Betty joined him in California and they continued to make their home there after his discharge from the service on August 3, 1954. He was injured in Korea on July 24, 1953, on the final night of conflict before the truce was signed. He received several medals for his military service. After his military service, Percy joined the Welders and Pipe Fitters Union in Corona, CA. They continued to make California their home until retiring in 1981. The Christies moved to Ironside. Percy was an active member of White Oak Baptist Church serving in several capacities. In 1997, Betty and Percy moved back to the White Oak area where Betty grew up. Percy is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; brother-in-law Charles Rafferty and wife Junelle of Vinita, sister-in-law LaDon Buchanan and husband Don of Tulsa, nephew Kye Christie and family of Tulsa, niece Janie Christie Powell and family of Austin, TX, nephew George Sutton and family of Vinita and numerous other nieces and nephews. Special friends Robert and Melanie Sanders, Allan and Collin Sanders of Vinita, and Monty and Tracy Nail and Casey Nail of Vinita also survive Percy. His father, Arch, mother Lydia, brother John Christie, and sister Cherokee Virginia Sutton preceded Percy in death. Funeral services will be held at White Oak Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Leland Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers are Terry Layman, Jack Warden, Monty Nail, Eddie Jent, Robert Sanders, and Cody Wolfe. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Wolfe and Jim Hayes.
