Phyllis Jean Harper, age 93 and former resident of Bartlesville, OK, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Phyllis was born in Oklahoma City on July 7, 1923. She was the daughter of Grover Darnold and Grace Russell. They moved to Omega in 1930 where she received her early education. She graduated from Omega High school in 1940. Then she attended business college, so she could work at Tinker Air Force Base to put herself through college. Phyllis continued her education by attending Oklahoma A&M (OSU). While attending A&M she met John Harper. Phyllis and John Calvin Harper were united in marriage on May 31, 1947 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She graduated that same year. John went to work for Ralston Purina and moved to Vinita. Paula, their first child was born in 1950. Cheryl was born when they moved to Wellington, TX in 1952. They settled in Bartlesville in 1954 and two years later, Jonnie was born. Phyllis was member of First Baptist Church and dearly loved her church. She was a strong witness for Christ and loved telling people about him. She was generous and loving to everyone. She was loved by the Assisted Living staff. She enjoyed sewing for her children, making crafts, playing hymns on the piano, reading her Bible, but most of all she loved her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters; Paula and her husband Sonny Edwards of Greer South Carolina, Cheryl and her husband Carl Laverty of Laverne Oklahoma, Jonnie and her husband David Edwards of Stillwater Oklahoma, and grandchildren; Beth Laverty, Ben Laverty, Rachel Lewis and her husband Jonathan, and a great granddaughter; Nyla. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister; Dorothy McCandless, husband; John Harper, a granddaughter; Abby Edwards. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Voice of the Martyrs or Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greenville South Carolina. Come and go visitation for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 am-8:00 pm, in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at Arnold Moore & Neekamp on Wednesday August 31, at 10:00 am. Rev. Tom Cox will be the officiant. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery.
