Former Principal at Larkin Bailey Elementary in Owasso, OK, and Superintendent at Sperry Public Schools, Dr. Rayma Lea Adams Harchar, 59, recently of Hammond, Louisiana, died on July 23, 2011 in a car accident. Assistant Professor at University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Kaplan University. She is survived by her husband, John Harchar, her father and mother, Boyd and June Adams of Langley, OK, her daughters, Elaine Glass of Kenosha, WI, and Karla Bell of Lewisville, TX, as well as seven grandchildren. John and Rayma met as teens in Southern California, went to OSU together and were wed on June 3, 1972 in Bartlesville and were happily married for 39 years. Rayma L. Harchar was an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana. She received her Ed.D. in School Administration from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was a certified superintendent, principal and reading specialist. She has more than 30 years of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher, principal and superintendent. As a professor of six years in Louisiana, she helped develop a new principal preparation program and published many papers on educational leadership. Rayma was passionate about education and the important role our educators and school leaders play in the development of our children. Rayma was a graduate and huge fan of Oklahoma State University. She and her family had football and basketball season tickets and had a lot of fun cheering on the Cowboys. Rayma was always energetic, positive and fun - whether she was dancing with her husband in New Orleans, on a cruise in the Carribean or just cooking dinner at the house. Rayma was always up for an adventure and game for anything her friends and family wanted to do. Rayma was strong-willed, with an even temperment, loving spirit and selfless attitude. Since the accident, there has been an outpouring of support and touching stories from friends and family, demonstrating the significant positive impact Rayma had on everyone she encountered.
