Raymond Barnhart

Raymond Edward Barnhart of Jay, Oklahoma age 86, died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at his residence. Raymond was born on May 27, 1925 in Ketchum, Oklahoma. He was the son of Lewis and Lucy (Singleton) Barnhart. He married Orpha Hope Earp on February 1, 1946, in Columbus Kansas. Raymond was a World War II veteran where he attained the rank of Corporal. He fought in the 79th Infantry across Europe receiving Bronze Service Stars for "Campaign Germany", "Normandy", and "Northern France." He was also a recipient of the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. Raymond established Barnhart Construction in 1957 working for federal, state and city agencies until his retirement in 2001. He was well know for charitable contributions to his community and received the Sam Walton Business Leadership Award in 1996. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Orpha, daughter Carol Newby, mother Lucy, father Lewis, sister Josephine Haff, and two brothers Delbert and Dewayne Barnhart. Raymond is survived by his daughters Sherry Barnhart, Vickie Culver, Katy Dunham and Michelle Woods all of Jay, Oklahoma, Sarah Blagg of Colcord, Oklahoma; sons Ed and Tom Barnhart both of Jay, Oklahoma and Phillip Barnhart of Centerton, Arkansas; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, Sister Peggy Harris of Sun Valley, Arizona, and brother Thomas Barnhart of Portland, Oregon, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Jay, Oklahoma with Steve Stenzil officiating. Music will be provided by Dylan Hall and Lori Sherrell. Serving as casket bearers will be Tommy Walker, Josh Newby, Kevin Culver, Joe Don Blagg, Raymond Keith "Ted" Barnhart and Zach Woods; honorary casket bearers will be J.D. Graham, Kenny Graham, Paul Lewis Baker, Jonnie Earp and Joe Graham. Raymond will be laid to rest in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force Ritual Team, assisted by great grandson, Airmen 1st Class, Luke Sherrell.
