Raymond Eugene McGuire, 80 year old Vinita resident, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. He was born on November 29, 1935 in West Jefferson, Ohio to Helen Winnora (Shaver) and William Lincoln McGuire. Ray graduated high school from West Jefferson, after high school he served his country in the United States Navy and Marines in the Medical Corp. He attended college at Connors State and then at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, where he received his Bachelors and Master's Degrees in Psychometry. On January 1, 1959 Ray married Joy Deanna Snow at the Muskogee First Baptist Church. Ray taught school and coached for Pocola, OK, Caney, KS and Vinita. He coached basketball, football and track. Later Ray was the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Oklahoma for 18 years, retiring in 1992. He also was scout for the high school football team for many years and had developed a scouting system that was ahead of its time. Ray loved all sports, playing softball, watching games, and was a big fan of Ohio State, Oklahoma, the Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Celtics. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vinita. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings, Roberta Ray, Geraldine Haley, Bill McGuire, and a baby brother; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Rae McGuire. The family includes: his wife Joy of the home, daughter, Karla McGuire of Norman, sons, Ray McGuire and wife Annette of Fairland, Mark McGuire and wife Jamie of Claremore; siblings, Patricia Hanson of Deltona, Florida, and Jim McGuire of Montgomery, Alabama; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The memorial service for Ray McGuire will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Skip McClain and Rev. Robert Ramsey officiating.
