Raymond Sturges

Worley- Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK- 918-253-3222........ Raymond E. Sturges, passed away at Craig General Hospital in Vinita, OK on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the age of 67. Raymond was born on January 30, 1947 in Topsy, OK, the son of the late Julian "Juke" Sturges and Rosezetta Mae (Robertson) Sturges. Raymond attended school at Mose Ridge until the 8th grade and then attended Jay High School graduating in 1965. After graduating high school he married Judy Barnwell on May 30, 1966 in Vinita, OK. Raymond joined the United States Army in 1966 serving his country in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1968. After his return to the states, Raymond moved his family to Tulsa, OK where he worked for Precision Products for a couple of years until they returned to the Jay area. Raymond worked for Lawrence Cearley on the dairy farm. He later started his career working for the county. He went back to help Mr. Cearley on the farm when Mr. Cearley's health got bad. After Lawrence's passing, Raymond went back to work for the county as a road foreman. He retired in 2010. Raymond was a member of the First Assembly of God and was a Deacon at the church for many years. He also was a longtime cast member of Picture and Scripture Amphitheater in Disney, OK. Raymond enjoyed coaching little league earlier in life, dirt bikes, horse riding, motorcycle riding with friends and family, gigging, fishing, hunting and attending his grandkids sporting events but most of all he loved to be with his family. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew Rodney Shuck. He is survived by his wife Judy of the home; two children: Kevin Sturges and wife Sheila of Langley, OK, and Marsha Sturges of Jay, OK; six grandchildren: Ridge Sturges and his wife Karen, Tyler Buzzard, Lili Sturges, Albe Sturges, Blaike Rutherford, and Bryce Rutherford; one brother Dick Sturges and his wife Mary Lou of Springfield, MO; four sisters: Sue Nell Shuck of Jay, OK, Vi Hall of Jay, OK, Lora Mae Morrow of Topsy, OK, and Velda Carr of Eucha, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at the First Assembly of God in Jay, OK on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 10AM with Rev. Bill Goldner, Rev. Robert Lokey, and Rev. Chad Allred, presiding. The burial will follow at Mose Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6PM to 8PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK. Friends and family may leave notes of encouragement by viewing Raymond's Book of Memories at www.honoringmemories.com. Casket bearers will be Ritchie Shuck, Ronnie Shuck, Tim Hall, Rory Hall, Mike Hall, Bruce Morrow, Kim Morrow, Rick Morrow, Lewis Tauuneacie, and Brent Sturges In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in honor of Raymond to the Jay First Assembly of God for the new playground project, 908 N. Main, Jay, OK 74346.
