Rena June Gilbert, 98-year-old, longtime resident of the Disney area passed away Friday October 10, 2008. For the last 3 years, she had been residing with her daughter in Washington State. She was born June 12, 1910, to Claud P. Mitchell and Lula A (Mendenhall) Mitchell. They moved to the Ripley area in Oklahoma when she was a few months old, and later they moved to the Strang Area when she was 10. Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Strang High School. After graduation from high school, Mrs. Gilbert worked at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita OK, then working at various state hospitals, migrating West. She and Theron S. Gilbert were united in marriage on June 6, 1946 at Mt. Vernon, WA. They continued working at state hospitals, and retired from Agnew State Hospital, Santa Clara, CA. After retiring, they returned to the Disney area. She was an avid reader of the Daily Journal and enjoyed working the crossword puzzles. Mrs. Gilbert leaves behind a daughter Thera Sue Ventimiglia and stepdaughter Veroniqua Buczinski, and granddaughter Kristen Cook and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001 and her parents. The funeral will be at the Graveside in the Fairview Cemetery on Monday October 20, 2008 at 11:00 am, with Bob Innis officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday in the Luginbuel Chapel. The services are under the directions of the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita.
