Rick was born on April, 14, 1956 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Charles M. and Clara LaDell (Beam) Hughes. Rick graduated from Colcord High School in 1974. Rick worked as a dispatcher for the Jay Police Department for several years, and was a Colcord Police Officer. He and his best friend, who is also is cousin, Steve Hughes, spent many an hour and mile together team driving for Tri State Trucking out of Joplin, Missouri. Since Rick's passing; his family was told by former classmates; that Rick had not missed a single class reunion and was always proud of the fact it was held in a building built by his late father Meral Hughes. He and his brothers helped, help meaning they were "allowed" to pick up nails and clean up the job site. Rick loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed watching his grandson's play in the same yard that he grew up in. His daily visits and errand running with his cousin Steve; was the highlights of Rick's days. He loved music, loved listening, singing, playing the guitar and had recently began playing the fiddle. Rick had always been a HAMM Radio enthusiast, but even more so for the last several years, there was always a new antenna to put up or a cable to run. He loved tinkering with small electronics, fixing them and just to see how they worked. He had a passion for installing "fancy" light and gadgets in his vehicles. Rick didn't let losing his leg slow him down, he was known to put himself in his truck and go, he had a spare chair in the back just in case.. During the summers of years past, you could find Rick enjoying camping at the lake with his mother LaDell Hughes and Uncle Jerry Beam and cousin; Brother Joe Baker. He always said the time at the lake was his moments of peace; all his troubles were gone at the lake. Aunt Geraldine Duncan was proud to report that her last visit with Rick; he assured her his heart was right with God, the family finds great comfort in knowing this. Rick was preceded in death by his father Charles Hughes who passed in 1994, his mother Clara LaDell Hughes, who passed in 2013, and one brother Charles Allen Hughes who passed in 1994.
