Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita, 918-256-5555; Robert I. "Bob" Hartley, 88 year old well-known Vinita business man and owner of Spur Ranch, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Hillcrest Heart Hospital in Tulsa. He was born on March 17, 1928 in Stockton, Missouri to Thomas H. "Jot" and Irene Inez (Ireson) Hartley. Bob received his Bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from Oklahoma State University. He was married to Mary Jane Babb on May 22, 1951 in Grove, Oklahoma, she preceded him in death in 2006. Bob served his country during the Korean Conflict and was in the 45th Infantry as a First Lt. He served on the Vinita City Council and was a past member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Vinita. He was the owner/operator of several businesses in the Vinita area, including, Hartley Seed Company, Vinita Finance Company and Vinita Flag and Apron, Phoenix Coal Company, H&H Land and Cattle Company and Spur Ranch. He was recognized as leader in the Angus Cattle industry. His Spur Ranch produced the 1969 International Grand Champion Angus Bull. Bob was a pioneer in the performance testing of Angus cattle. Bob was a founding member of Performance Registry International and Oklahoma Beef Incorporated. He was inducted to the American Angus Association Heritage Hall of Fame and was honored as a Master Breeder by Oklahoma State University. Bob was a former Chairman and Member of the Board of Regents for Oklahoma State University. He was honored as a Distinguished Graduate and Alumni of OSU. One of his proudest achievements was his involvement in the establishment of Home of Hope in Vinita, along with its founders, his wife Jane and Laura Cupp. Home of Hope currently provides care and vocational opportunities for over 200 developmentally disabled clients. Bob was a longtime member of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his wife Jane. The family includes: his three sons, Thomas Jot Hartley and wife Renee of Vinita, Clay Hartley and wife Paula of Broken Arrow, Bobby Hartley of Vinita; grandchildren, Travis Hartley and wife Shana of Vinita, Jimmy Hartley of Seattle, Washington, Lindsay Hartley of Dallas, Texas; and great-grandchildren Emma, Abby, and James Hartley all of Vinita. Friends may pay respects at the Luginbuel Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Vinita. The life celebration service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 also at the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Ken Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Home of Hope for its Key To Hope Foundation.
