Robert P. "Bob" McSpadden, 77 year-old well known Vinita resident, popular humorist, banker and businessman, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa. Bob was born February 22, 1931 in Chelsea to Herb and Madeline (Pope) McSpadden. He graduated from Chelsea High School and attended Northeastern State University at Tahlequah; he then joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954. Bob and Jeanne (Taylor) McSpadden were married on August 23, 1952 in Tulsa. Bob was a very caring, civic minded and deeply involved in many local organizations and the betterment of the area communities. Bob was retired from First National Bank, and he still maintained an office there; he was also the owner/operator of the McSpadden Car Wash in Vinita. He served as a member of numerous civic organizations, including the Lions Club, Toastmasters, American Legion Dale Peace Post #40, where he served as Rodeo Chairman many times, including this year. Cherokee Nation Council, ROCMND Service Board, Democratic Party Chairman of Craig County, Red Feather Fund, Craig County Livestock Show, Vinita Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion Baseball and Boys State, served as the State Assistant Commissioner of the American Legion Baseball, the State American Legion Baseball Committee, and was an active member of the St. John's Episcopal Church, where he served as Senior and Junior Warden. Bob is survived by his wife Jeanne McSpadden, three sons, Robin McSpadden and wife Stacy of Oologah, Phil McSpadden of Oklahoma City, and Mark McSpadden and wife Stacee of Vinita, a brother Clem McSpadden and wife Donna, sister in-law Leota McSpadden all of Chelsea, grandchildren, Matthew, Aaron, Meredith, Michael, Claire, Emma and Micaela McSpadden and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Madeline McSpadden and a brother Trent McSpadden. Caskets bearers will be, Chuck Woodall, Bud Wyatt, Jack Millikan, Howard Kleeman, Wayne Shearhart, and Phil Carroll. Honorary bearers are, Kenneth Sooter, Carrel (Deek) Melton, Argene Clanton, Everett Jones, Kenny Jennings and Larry Kilgore. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Cowboy Junction in Vinita with Rev. Dave Huxley, Rev. Lisa Mitchell, Rev. Bill Mason, and Rev. Howard Wilson officiating, the Eulogy will be done by Clem McSpadden. Interment will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com.
