Roberta Brookshire, 95 year old Vinita resident, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born on December 5, 1921 in Salina to Homer and Emma (Downum) Hyatt. Roberta lived in the Salina area until 1941 when she moved to Vinita. She was married to Tom Brookshire, who preceded her death. Roberta retired from Eastern State Hospital where she worked as an aide for over 40 years. She was well known in the Vinita area for her work as the Poppy Lady for the local V.F.W. women's auxiliary. Roberta enjoyed going camping, especially at Flat Rock near Wagoner, She was also known for her Christmas Displays. She attended the First Christian Church in Afton. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, a step-daughter Nancy Studer and a grandson. The family includes; her daughter, Peggy Richmond and husband Don of Moore, OK; a son, Bill Martin of Vinita; step-daughter, Ruth Ann Beard and husband Scott of Kingman, KS; daughter in-law, Patricia Martin of Vinita; a special nephew, Joe Brown, niece, Susan Miller and nephew, Peter Hyatt; a cousin, Gordon Downum; numerous grandchildren, step-granchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM, in the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Chester Webster officiating.
