Roman Edward "R. E." Willy, 84 of Bartlesville, Oklahoma died Tuesday morning, November 15, 2011, at the Jane Phillips Hospital. R. E. was born April 15, 1927, to Edward and Laura (Pollart) Willy at Holy, Colorado. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Vinita. At the young age of 17 years, he entered the United States Marine Corp and faithfully served his country from 1945-1949. R. E. married Betty Ruth (Conard) Willy on May 8, 1950, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Vinita, Oklahoma. In 1950, he was recalled to the Marine Corp to again serve his country and was stationed at Fort Pendleton, California from 1950-1952. In 1952 R. E. began working in Pryor, Oklahoma at the Public Service Company of Oklahoma and while working for the company he moved through a variety of accounting assignments at Pryor, Chouteau, Vinita and McAlester. He was the Company's District Manager at the Vinita office prior to transferring to Bartlesville in 1979. In Bartlesville he served as the Company's District Manager until his retirement in 1986. R. E. was active in civic and community affairs throughout his life to include Lion's Club, Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Park Foundation, Inc., and Community Area United Fund and served on the Executive Board of the Cherokee Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church of Bartlesville. Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home in Bartlesville; a son Stephen Willy and wife Shirley of Vinita; two daughters, Katherine Barrett and husband Bob of Plano, Texas and Barbara Adams and husband Keith of Yukon, Oklahoma. Two sisters, Rose Marie Launcher and Mary Ann Schwartz, both of Vinita; two brothers, Bob Willy and wife Anita of Vinita, Paul Willy and wife Trish of Terrell, Texas. Two granddaughters, Rebecca Stilly and husband Justin and Amanda Harlin and husband Eric all of Joplin, Missouri; one grandson Christopher Hayes and wife Elizabeth of Wylie, Texas; two granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Adams of Yukon; three great-grandchildren. R. E. was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald Willy. The Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011, 6:30 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Vinita. Funeral services will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Vinita on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the committal to follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Vinita, with Father Alex Kennedy officiating. Preferred memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
