Long time Vinita resident Ronald Gene "Rusty" Daugherty, age 70, died Saturday, January 30, 2010. He was born in Claremore, OK on May 13, 1939, the son of John Daugherty Sr. and Victoria (Secondine) Daugherty. He graduated White Oak High School in 1957. Rusty ran his own barber shop for many years in Vinita. His hobbies included golfing, fishing, hunting, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. He was a member of the Shawnee and Delaware tribes and attended Shawnee Ceremonials. Rusty is survived by his children Ronnie Daugherty, Coquestia Daugherty, and Kimalea Daugherty Douglas, siblings John Daugherty Jr. and wife Susan of Edmond, Sharon Gardner and husband Joe of Claremore, and Steve Daugherty and wife Sharon of Quapaw, as well as one grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Pat Dilliner. A wake will be held Tuesday evening, February 2, 2010 at the Loyal Shawnee Cultural Center of White Oak. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2010 also at the Loyal Shawnee Cultural Center of White Oak with Shawnee Elder Don Greenfeather officiating and Chris White assisting.
