Ronnie Lee Watkins, 66 year-old rural Vinita resident, died early Sunday morning, May 4, 2008 at his home, after an extended illness. He was born August 19, 1941 in Vinita to Orville Dallas "Jack" Watkins and Lima Lee (Lay) Watkins. Ronnie was a graduate of White Oak High School. He married Billye Giles on June 29, 1962 at the Bunker Hill Baptist Church west of Vinita. Ronnie worked for and retired from the Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Emmanuel Temple of Vinita and true follower of Jesus Christ. Ronnie liked to watch NASCAR races, going to tractor pulls, coyote hunting and his long horn cattle. The family includes: his wife Billye of the home, his children, Rod Watkins and wife Shannon of Cleora, Kathy Swan and husband Keith of Vinita, Karla Hale and husband Chris of Bartlesville; his sister Karen Hayes and husband Ross of White Oak, brother Jimmy Watkins and wife Barbara of Claremore; grandchildren, Kristen Nightingale, Shi Ann Leonard, Libby Watkins, Meg Watkins, Grant Watkins, Kooper Swan, Kanyon Swan; a special niece Nicole Giles, cousin Maxine Webb of Pueblo, Colorado, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. The funeral will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Temple west of Vinita, with Pastors Roger Wright and Bruce Butler officiating. Interment will follow at the Martin Cemetery near Centralia. Casket bearers will be; John Paul George, Phil Speer, Howard McMains, Junior Landon, Marvin Christian and Mike Giles. Honorary bearers will be Jason Weaver, Justin Turner, Mike Patrick, Rick Helton, Bill Woodard, Efton Wayman, Corky Hale and Wayne Bowie. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
