Ross Hayes

Ross L. Hayes, 67 year old White Oak resident, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at the Freeman West Medical Center in Joplin, after an extended illness. He was born November 5, 1945 in White Oak to Frank and Evelyn (Hill) Hayes. Ross was a graduate of White Oak High School and a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. He married Karen Watkins on August 28, 1964 at the Bunker Hill Baptist Church; they have lived in the White Oak area all their lives. He worked many years for Peabody Coal and Brakefield Equipment in the coal mining industry as a heavy equipment operator and welder. Ross was very passionate about music, he enjoyed playing the "Old Time Music" on his fiddle. He could play most any instrument, he really enjoyed picking with his grandchildren and listening to them play. Ross was a very loving, and caring husband, father and grandfather. The family includes: his wife Karen of the home, two children, Kim Sherrick and husband Wade of Welch, Landon Hayes and wife Tonda of Vinita; grandchildren, Chance Hayes, Chassidy Smith and husband Kelly, Tyler and Dillon Sherrick; brothers and sisters, Frank Hayes and wife Bobby of Vinita, Jim Hayes and wife Shirley of White Oak, John Hayes and wife Sherry of Pensacola, Nancy Schoonover and husband Frank of White Oak, Alma Keeling and husband George of Fairland, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charlie Hayes and sister, Beatrice Sockey. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday May 23, 2013 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Vinita. The graveside service will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the White Oak Cemetery, with Rev. Leland Bartlett officiating. Casket bearers will be, Wade, Tyler, and Dillon Sherrick, Landon and Chance Hayes, and Kelly Smith. Online condolences may be made at www.honoringmemories.com. Arrangements are by the Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
