Roxie Juanita Charles, 90 year-old Vinita resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. She was born July 12, 1921 in Boatman, Oklahoma to Susie Jane (Maze) and Charles Lewis Turner. Roxie was married to Douglas Elmo Charles on June 21, 1941 in Pryor, he preceded her in death on Saturday, June 16, 2012. She was retired from Eastern State Hospital where she was employed for over 25 years. Roxie was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, was an excellent cook and pie maker, enjoyed doing embroidery, reading and doing puzzles. Roxie will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family includes: her children, J. L. Charles and wife Roberta of White Oak, Sue Hults and husband Ed of Bluejacket, Carl Charles and wife Susan of Moulton, Alabama, Linda Tennyson and husband Leon of Bluejacket, Betty Langley and husband Joe of Bluejacket, Sharon Layman and husband Terry of Vinita, step-son, Leroy Charles and wife Sigrid of Pryor; one sister, Violet Sharpe of Hart, Texas; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Roxie was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Tommy Wayne Charles, 11 siblings and a daughter in-law, Mary Sue Charles. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the White Oak Baptist Church, with Rev. Leland Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at the White Oak Cemetery.
