Roy Franklin Good, Jr. of Grove died at 4:40 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Grand Lake Villa after a short illness. He was 91. Roy was born October 31, 1916 in Paola, Kansas to Roy Franklin and Ada Naomi (Gunnels) Good, Sr. He attended schools in Kansas and Missouri, graduated from North East High School in Kansas City, Missouri with the Class of 1935. He received an Associate Degree from Kansas City Missouri Community College in 1937. During World War II he served his country as a Sergeant with the 717th Bombardment Squadron with the Army Air Force. He fought in the European Theatre in the following battles and campaigns, GO 33 WD 45, Air Offensive Europe, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France, Southern France, North Apennines, Po Valley, Air Combat Balkans. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also a sharpshooter. Roy was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Grace Presbyterian Church of Grove. Roy was the consummate outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his real love was the life of the cowboy. He had worked for many years as a ranch foreman and he continued to break horses even after his retirement. On November 10, 1942, he married Lucille H. Mock at Olathe, Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include, three sons and their wives, Roy F. Good, III and Cathy, Steve Good and Diana, all of Grove and Gregory Good and Tammie of Louisburg, Kansas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Good was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis William Good. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2008 at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Grove with Dr. Richard Evans and Dr. Deborah Meinke officiating. Burial will follow in Olympus Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites will be provided by the Grove Ritual Team. Pallbearers will be Shane Good, Mathew Good, John Langley, Sid Muss, Gracin Brown, and Lowell Crowl. The family suggests memorials to the Grace Presbyterian Church of Grove. Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove is in charge of arrangements.
