Roy Lee Taylor, 75, of Bartlesville, OK, passed away at his home Sunday, April 21, 2024.
Roy was born in Austin, Texas on March 15, 1949, to James Curtis “Curt” Taylor and Macy Irene (Bruce) Taylor. He grew up in Pershing, OK and graduated from Pawhuska High School in 1967. Roy joined the U.S. Army in 1972 and made a career of service to his country. He was stationed several places around the world including Bartlesville Recruitment Office, Ft. Riley, KS, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Schoffield Barracks, Hawaii, Ft. Campbell and Ft. Knox, KY, Heilbronn and Frankfurt, Germany and eventually retired out of Ft. Leonard Wood in 1992 and moved back to Bartlesville.
Roy married Deborah Owen on June 2, 1973, at Bartlesville. Deborah preceded her husband in death February 5, 2017. After Roy’s career as a combat engineer, he returned to civilian life and drove trucks, working for Bonham Trucking several years before his second retirement.
Roy enjoyed the fellowship at Full Gospel Christian Center in Childers, OK. He had pastored a church in Caney, KS before becoming an evangelist. This vocation worked well with his love of traveling. As a younger man, Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing. Spending time with family, though was his passion.
Roy is survived by his four children, Shawn Taylor and wife, Manon of Pawhuska, Kenneth Taylor and wife, Nancy of Bartlesville, Cindy Smith and husband, Joshua of Oklahoma City and Matthew Taylor and his girlfriend, Ashlyn Newcomb of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Roger Taylor and wife, Leona of Pawhuska, two sisters, Treva Martin and husband, Gene of Skedee, OK and Carolyn Harper and husband, Terry of Skiatook, OK; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curt and Macy Taylor, by a brother Carl Taylor and by two sisters, Florene Yates and Joyce Walker.
