Ruby Helen May was born on July 22, 1936 to Joe Grant and Rena Mae (Zink) Grant in Nowata, Oklahoma. She passed away on July 26, 2008 at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Ruby Helen was raised in Nowata and graduated from Nowata High School in 1954. Upon graduating, she worked in the medical field, working for a number of physicians and hospitals in northeastern Oklahoma. In the early 1960s she relocated to Bartlesville and began working in the oil industry, first with Cities Service, then Phillips Petroleum Company. She retired from Phillips in 1988 but continues working for a variety of employers in Bartlesville until completely retiring in 1993. She enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Cubs, and sports team from the University of Tulsa, ice hockey, tennis, and golf. Ruby fought a remarkable fight against cancer, first being diagnosed in October of 2007. Her courage and perseverance in battling this disease will be remembered by her family and friends. Ruby is survived by her son and daughter in law, Ron and Kathy May of Broken Arrow, OK; two granddaughters, Amber May and Stephanie May of Broken Arrow, OK; a sister and brother in law, April and Jim Watkins of Copan, OK; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Grant (1980); brother, Jimmie Joe Grant (1985), and her mother, Rena Grant (2007). Pallbearers for the service will include Jim Daxon, Kevin Ickleberry, Scott Allen, Brian Swenson, Jamey Watkins, and Darrel Thurman. Honorary Pallbearers for the service will include Jim Gullane, Leo Benifeld, Bob Moser, and Vigil Thurman. Funeral services for Ms. May will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday August 1, 2008 at the St. Francis Xavier Church. Father Robert Dye of the St. Francis Xavier Church will be officiating. Visitation will be Thursday July 31, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
