Ruby Jean Reid-Taylor, 82 year-old Vinita resident, died Thursday August 9, 2012 from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born February 27, 1930 to Walter and Melinda (Addy) Reid. Ruby graduated from Warner High School, where she was an outstanding basketball player. She began working as a telephone operator for Cross Telephone Company in Warner in high school. After graduating high school she married Milford Spaulding, they lived in Muskogee, that's when she began her career with Southwestern Bell/American Telephone and Telegraph. Later she married Wallace Taylor and they made their home in rural Craig County. Ruby served "Ma Bell" in many capacities. She was also an officer with the Communication Workers of America and served as president of the local union. Ruby was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ruby was a Yellow Dog Democrat, very active in the State of Oklahoma Democratic Party. She had served as delegate at the Democratic Convention several times. Ruby had attended presidential and gubernatorial inaugurations; she had even dined at the White House. Ruby had hosted and promoted many political candidates throughout the years. She had served as President of the Democratic Women of Oklahoma and Craig County Democrats. She had made many friends and very interesting times during her life travelling throughout the United States. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Taylor in 2009, her son Homer Lee Spaulding, Sister Dorothy Cherity and Brother James Reid. The family includes: her nephew, Terry Reid and wife Linda of Warner, niece, Edith "Pat" Chapel and husband of Milwaukee, WS, niece Billie Jean Pratt-Carriker and husband Lonnie of Phoenix, AZ; many other family members and friends; including care-giver Ginger Littlefield of Vinita. The funeral will be held, Thursday August 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Vinita, with Rev. George Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery.
