Ruth Bland

Salina, KS - Ruth Mary Bland, 70, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at her home in Salina, Kansas. Ruth was born September 26, 1936 at Vinita, Oklahoma to Frederick Thomas Cowardin and Nina Ruth (Smith) Cowardin. She grew up in Vinita and was a graduate of Vinita High School. Ruth spent much of her life in Vinita, before moving to Kansas. She was a bank manager and teller and a member of the Vinita First Baptist Church. Ruth was very active in supporting the American Cancer Society. Survivors are her four children, Ruth Chardelle Atwood of Salina, Kansas, Wayne L. Bland, II of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Elizabeth Renee Zimbelman of Moran, Kansas and Jennifer Marie Bland of the home; one brother, Rev. Fred T. Cowardin of Port Charlotte, Florida; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church in Vinita with Rev. Fred T. Cowardin officiating. Interment will be in Vinita's Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home. Family suggests that friends who wish donate to the American Cancer Society in honor of Ruth.
