Ruth Massey

Ruth Ellen Massey, 86 died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her home in Bartlesville. Ruth Ellen Massey was born to Mae Scott Wright and Hubert Carlton Wright in Hampton, Kentucky on December 23, 1923. After completing high school, she earned a degree in Home Economics at Murray State College in Kentucky. After graduation she taught home economics for one year before going to work in a hospital medical laboratory. She married her childhood sweetheart Phillip Stewart Massey on June 27, 1948 and joined him in Fort Collins where he was attending Colorado State University. While living in Fort Collins she worked as a medical technologist at a local hospital. She and her husband moved to Bartlesville in 1950 and soon began their family. Ruth enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. When her children left for college, she worked as a nurse in a local doctor's office for several years where she brought warmth and comfort to many patients. After her husband retired, they enjoyed traveling, especially to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to visit their son Bob and his wife Pamela. When they were not traveling, Ruth also enjoyed volunteering at the hospital. Ruth's extensive background in medical care was invaluable when her husband developed Parkinson's disease. She lovingly and competently cared for him throughout his many years of illness. Ruth and Phil were active in the local Parkinson's Support Group where they made many wonderful friends. Ruth was a loyal member of First Baptist Church where she had many treasured friends. She also enjoyed her Sewing Club which has met twice a month for decades. She was a dog lover who doted especially on her beloved poodle, Patches, and more recently on her new young dog, Noelle. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Phillip, her son Bob, and her brother Hubie Wright. She is survived by her daughter Linda, her daughter-in-law Pamela, her sister-in-law Martha Lee Wright, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and a caring friend to all who knew her. Funeral services for Mrs. Massey will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Colonial Chapel of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home. Dr. Joe Dan Fowler of the First Baptist Church of Bartlesville, Ok. will preside over the services, with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
