ARNOLD MOORE & NEEKAMP FUNERAL HOME, BARTLESVILLE, OK - Sara Margaret Gibney Messall age 96 and resident of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at The Journey Home in Bartlesville. Sara was born on September 17, 1919 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Harry James Gibney and Sara Eliza Bryner Gibney. Sara was reared in Bartlesville and graduated from Bartlesville High School in 1937. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. degree in Home Economics, in 1941. She was in the first class of Child Development and Family Relations Department in the Home Economics School. She was married to Colonel Charles Martin Messall on January 29, 1914 in St. John Catholic Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1976. She lived all over the United States and Middle East as an Army wife. Mrs. Messall leaves Charles Martin Messall, II of Bartlesville; Sara Margaret (Susie) Kessler and Craig of Stillwater, Oklahoma; John Patrick Messall and Janet of Alhambra, California; five grandchildren: Christopher Charles Kessler, Mary Anne Kessler and Michael Patrick Kessler of Kansas City, Kansas; and James Arthur Messall, II, and Sara Rose Messall of Alhambra, California. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary; Charter member of Bartlesville Ballet Guild; past regent of D.A.R.; Life member of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary; Eager to Grow Extension Home Makers; Elks Club; Hobby Club; Hillcrest Country Club; Reserve Officers Association Auxiliary; past president Rose Garden Club; past president Salvation Army Auxiliary; past president St. Anne's Alter Society of St. John Catholic Church; V.F.W. Auxiliary; Adult Center in Dewey, Oklahoma; A.A.R.P. in Nowata, Oklahoma; and 55 Adult Activity Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mrs. Messall had no brothers nor sisters, but had a cousin, Mrs. Anne Caldwell Rawlins (deceased); and she has one sister-in-law: Mrs. Floriene Davis Messall of Bartlesville. Sara was proud of the fact that she was able to spend the last 10 years living with her sons, Chuck and John in Bartlesville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer or heart fund. Visitation for Sara will be held on Sunday from 1-6:00 PM, and on Monday from 9:00 AM-8:00 PM. Family will be present to greet friends on Tuesday from 1-3:00 PM prior to the start of the Rosary. All visitation will be in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home, 710 S. Dewey Ave. Bartlesville. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday at 6:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral home chapel. The funeral service will be celebrated at St. John Before The Latin Gate on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Father Michael Pratt will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery beside her late husband. Arrangements are under the direction of the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
