Sarah Bond

August 7, 1947 — November 25, 2009

Sarah Joyce Holder Bond went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2009. Born to William and Rebecca (Poole) Holder on August 7, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Joyce grew up in the Fairview community of Rossville, Georgia. She lived a beautiful life, a great portion spent with John, her husband of 35 years, whom she married at Fairview Baptist Church on December 28, 1973. Joyce leaves a wonderful Christian legacy. A loving wife, mother, sister, daughter-in-law and grandmother, Joyce is survived by her husband, John, two daughters, Rebecca Timmons and her husband Luke and grandchildren, Brendon, Brock and Braleigh of Bartlesville, and Jennifer Hobbs and her husband Brian and grandchildren, Alice, Evelyn and Martin of Oklahoma City. She is survived by a sister, Gwen Pressley, and her husband Larry of Lafayette, Georgia, and her brother Wendell Holder of Rossville, Georgia, as well as her mother-in-law, Faye Bond of Jackson, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. A gifted teacher who received her Bachelor of Arts from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, and a Master of Arts in English from Eastern Kentucky University, Joyce taught high school and college courses, prior to moving to Oklahoma, where she and her husband together worked in the family business for nearly 30 years. She had a kind, generous spirit and many wonderful talents -- excelling at writing, cooking, sewing and other expressions of creativity. Some of her favorite activities included traveling with her husband, having visited all 50 of the United States, with a special fondness for Alaska. She enjoyed animals, birds, flowers and the outdoors, hours with her family -- especially her grandchildren -- and cheering on her Oklahoma Sooners. Joyce perhaps was best known for how she gave of herself to help others, and many ministries and causes to which she gave her time, including lifting up others in prayer, being a Stephen Ministry leader, Emmaus, Evangelism Explosion, Mutual Girls' Club Board member, and the Eight Days of Hope effort in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A faithful member of Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene, the life of Joyce Bond was that of a Christ-like example, with a deep, abiding faith and trust in the Lord. Services will be held at Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene at Noon on Thursday, December 3, 2009, where Dr. Randy Schuneman will officiate. Visitation for Joyce is scheduled at the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 2, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and family visitation at the funeral home will be from 5-8 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Bartlesville First Church of the Nazarene, 3650 S. E. Adams Boulevard, Bartlesville, OK 74006. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home.
