Afton, OK (The Coves at Bird Island) - Sharla Kaye Bonner, 44, died Saturday evening, September 8, 2007 at her home in The Coves at Bird Island. Sharla was born November 9, 1962 at Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Don L. Gibson and Evelyn (Poindexter) Gibson. She grew up in Sallisaw and was a graduate of Sallisaw High School, where she was active in Math Club and varsity basketball and softball. Sharla then attended the Sallisaw branch of Carl Albert Junior College and was employed by Holley Carburetor. She later moved to East Lake Hills on Lake Tenkiller and then Grand Lake Towne, Oklahoma. Sharla moved to The Coves eight years ago. She married William "Bill" Bonner on March 24, 2001 at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Sharla attended Cleora United Methodist Church. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Coves Ladies Golf Association and a member/guest of Patricia Island Ladies Golf Association. Sharla was a loving mother and wife, who enjoyed bowling, antiques, sports and basically anything that would get her outside and in to nature. She was an OU Sooner fan and could often be found talking on her phone. Sharla is survived by her husband, Bill of the home; mother, Evelyn Sanders of Oologah, Oklahoma; two sons, Joshua Don Howell and his wife, Trista of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Heath Dwight Howell of Langley, Oklahoma; two step-daughters, Jackie Bonner of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Jan Bonner of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her twin sister, Darla Davis and her husband, Scott of Oologah; sister, Donna Gibson of Sallisaw; two brothers, Bill Gibson and his wife, Tamara of Vinita, Oklahoma and Charles Sanders of Oologah; three step-brothers, Charles "Chester" Sanders of Centralia, Missouri, Tommy Sanders of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Rodney Sanders of Centralia, Missouri; a niece, Hannah Yancey of Oologah; mother-in-law, Emma Bonner of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Lisa Clark of Oklahoma City; extended family members, Brock Sandridge of the U.S. Army, stationed in Virginia, Mark Barnes of Cleora, Oklahoma and Miranda Barnes of Colorado Springs; several other nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Don, her step-father, Charles Sanders and a step-daughter, Jennifer Bonner. Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Cleora United Methodist Church with Pastor Rich Brascher, officiating. Committal service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, Oklahoma under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, Oklahoma.
