Sheila O'Leary Gaddis was born April 22, 1922 in London, England in Willsden. She was the daughter of Patrick O'Leary and Christina (Linehan) O'Leary. Her father, Patrick, died two months before her birth. She attended school in London. At the age of seven or eight, she attended the Bowsfield School. Then at the age of 12, she attended the Nun's Oratory School which was Roman Catholic. She attended school until she was 16 years old. After high school, she worked for the United Dairy, doing clerical work (and a bit of everything). In 1939, about the time WWII started, she was conscripted (drafted) into the military, as all the young folks her age were at that time. She served in Army Royal Artillery in the underground bunkers plotting the incoming German aircraft. In May of 1945, Sheila became a War Bride, marrying William A. "Bill" Hughes who was in the U.S. Air Corps. A few months after that she was discharged from the service. She came to the United States in January of 1946. Mr. Hughes was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company and the couple lived in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mr. Hughes preceded Sheila in death in 1965. Eight years later, Sheila and Preston Gilbert Gaddis were united in marriage and they made their home also in Bartlesville. Mr. Gaddis preceded her in death in July of 1996. Sheila has continued her home in Bartlesville since that time. The family wishes to give a special word of thanks to close friends and caregivers, Judy Burns, Barbara Pearson and Diane Moore. Also special thanks go to all of her doctors and others who cared for her so lovingly during her final days.
