Sherry Lee (Starnes) Kock, resident of Grove, OK, died on Tuesday, June 22 in Joplin, MO at the age of 67 years. In her life Sherry brought joy to those who knew her in many ways. She had a smile that would brighten a room, a laugh that was infectious, and an optimistic view of life and its opportunities that knew no bounds. She met her high school sweetheart, Berwin Kock, at Washington Senior High in Sioux Falls, SD. They were married on June 10, 1961 and had 49 wonderful years of marriage. In 1965 they moved to Lancaster, CA, where they raised two daughters, Meri Lyn and Kari Lei. She was an incredible mother and supported her girls in their many endeavors. Sherry was very involved with Meri and Kari through their participation in the YMCA Indian Maidens program, bowling leagues, Little League softball, and marching band. Her love of children led her to become a secretary in the Lancaster School District for over 25 years, working at several schools within the district. Once both Sherry and Berwin retired they moved to Grove, OK, where her focus became community involvement and travel. She was an active and enthusiastic member of Santa's Old Broads, Newcomers Club, Quilt Guild, Investment Club, Garden Club, Buffalo Shores Recreation Club, Grand Travelers, and Good to Go with Patti Beth. Sherry's love of travel took her to 29 countries on six different continents, mostly recently a three-week trip to Africa in February 2010. She was preceded in death by her father, S.C. "Stub" Starnes. In addition to Berwin, Meri, Kari and her husband, Marc, she is survived by her mother, Mildred (Tucker) Starnes, her brother Steve Starnes and his wife, Sherri, and their children, and her brother Richard Starnes and his wife, Pam. A "Celebration of Sherry's Life" service will be held on Wednesday, June 30th, at 1PM at First Christian Church, 102 E. 4th St., Grove, OK. Reflecting Sherry's nature and lifestyle, this will be a casual and relaxed celebration where guests are asked to wear a T-shirt from one of their travels if they have one, to bring "finger food" to share with other guests, and anyone who chooses will have an opportunity to share a special memory of Sherry. Memory stories may also be written and given to one of the family members to be included in a book the family will be able to enjoy for years to come. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Santa's Old Broads. Donations may be brought to the service or mailed to Santa's Old Broads, 3409 Scenic Dr., Grove, OK 74344.
