Shirley Lou (Johnson) Heape died on Tuesday, July 18th 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shirley was born on February 19, 1927 in Nowata, Oklahoma to Arthur T. Johnson and Willie Irene (Blakely) Johnson. She was reared by her maternal grandparents, William C. "Dad" Blakely and Ellie "Ma" Blakely. Shirley attended Nowata Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Shirley married Floyd Russell Heape on November 20, 1952 in Bentonville, Arkansas. Shirley's career was with "Ma Bell", first working for Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator in Nowata. She and Floyd relocated to Tulsa in 1963 when the local switchboard was shutdown. She retrained as a Supervisor, ending her career with AT&T. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, and her sister Bob (Johnson) Rider. She is survived by her brother-in-law Lloyd Heape; nieces and nephews, their spouses and children: Debbie Rider Skavlen, Wm. Blake Rider, Will Rogers Rider, Jr., Melayne Yocum, Wayne Heape, Tod Heape, Gary Heape, and Bruce Heape; her longtime caregiver, Fran Nails; and many friends. Come and go visitation will be Wednesday, July 26th at Benjamin Funeral Home in Nowata, from 9:00am until 7:00pm. Graveside services for Shirley will be held on Monday, July 31st, 2017, at 10:00, at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
