Steven Edgar Wheelock, 68, of Grove, Oklahoma was found dead in his home on May 29, 2009. Steven was born July 26, 1940 in Troy, Ohio to Ned B. and Wanda Leota (Hampton) Wheelock. He graduated in 1958 from Metropolis High School in Metropolis, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy from August 1959 to June 1961 on the U.S.S. Essex. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois in June 1965. His professional career spanned many industries, states, and companies, beginning with Boeing in Seattle, Washington and culminating in the corporate offices of Kay Jewelers in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a member of the American Legion since June 1995, the Forty and Eight since July 1998, and the Royal Order of Moose since December 2003. He moved to the Grove area in 2005 from Key Largo, Florida. While a member of the American Legion in Key Largo, his involvement was instrumental in granting nursing scholarships to deserving young people across the state of Florida. At the time of his death, he was proudly serving in the Office of Grand Chef de Train for the Forty and Eight. On June 5, 1960, he married E. Faye Miller. They were later divorced and she preceded him in death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Wanda Wheelock. Survivors include three daughters and their families; Kimberly Faye Wheelock Duren, her husband James Duren of Houston, Texas, Amy Jo Wheelock Cherry, her husband Ron Cherry of Tokyo, Japan, and Sheri Lee Wheelock, and her partner Laurie Brophy of Stetson, Maine; three grandchildren Emily Faye Duren, Lianne Xichang Cherry, and Nina Xie Cherry. A Memorial Service for Steven will be on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 12:00 p.m., at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Oklahoma.
