Sylvia Emma Mackey of Colcord, Oklahoma died at 11:20 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove. She was 99. Sylvia was born January 28, 1909 at Alston, in Barton County, Missouri to Edward and Estella (Rigg) Maddox. She was of Irish and Welsh decent. She graduated from Goodman High School, Goodman, Missouri. On September 15, 1932, she married Charles Earl Mackey. She worked hard her entire life. She worked at Pet Milk in Neosho, Missouri in the 1930's. After she and Charles moved to California in 1945, she worked at both the Libby's and Shuckl's Canneries. Then for close to 20 years, she worked for Litton Industries in San Carlos, California. On March 27, 1977, she lost her husband of almost 45 years. She returned the area of her youth in 1978. Sylvia was preceded in death by all six of her siblings, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Westphal of San Jose, California and Sandra Holdridge of Colcord, Oklahoma with whom she had made her home for the last 31 years. Sylvia is also survived by four grandchildren, Ron Westphal and his wife Sue of San Jose, California, Karen Westphal of Texas, Robert Holdridge of Oklahoma, and Tamara Brackett of Sacramento, California; six grandchildren, Greg, Sherry, Shannon, Jason, Kenneth, and Britteny; and one great-great-granddaughter, Ayala. Mrs. Mackey has been cremated. No local services are planned. She will be buried with her husband in Mission City Memorial Park, Santa Clara, California.
