Taylor Sixkiller

July 12, 1926 — August 23, 2012

Taylor Sixkiller, passed away at his home in Colcord on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the age of 86. Taylor was born on July 12, 1926 in Delaware County, OK, the son of the late Rufus Sixkiller and Jennie (Owens) Sixkiller. Taylor attended school in Wyandotte, OK until he left to help on the farm. At an early age, he traveled from Oklahoma to Canada working with crews cutting wheat. He married Ruby Chewie Sixkiller. Taylor was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he served most of his service in Alaska. After the service, Taylor worked in various jobs which included his final job at the Cherokee Nation Tribal office. He retired in the late 1990's. Taylor married Joan (Pate) Hawkins on October 28, 2003 in Eureka Springs, AR. He was a member of the Tyio Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, catching crawdads, and gigging but most of all he loved to be around his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his previous wife Ruby Sixkiller; parents; brothers and sisters; and his stepson Bob Chewie. He is survived by his wife Joan Sixkiller of the home; two sons: Richard Sixkiller and his wife Jo Ann of Twin Oaks, OK, Ernie Sixkiller and his wife Christi of Siloam Springs, AR; stepdaughters: Karen Caler of Fayetteville, AR, Bette Scruggins and husband John of Tahlequah, OK, Cathy Byers and husband Russell of Guymon, OK, Nancy Cole and husband Micheal Cole of Moody, OK, and Carol Sapp and her husband Henry of Bullhollow, OK; stepson Jerry Hawkins and his wife Mary of Avon Park, FL; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. The graveside service will be held at the Elm Cemetery in Leach, OK on Monday, August 27, 2012 at 10AM with Pastor Jeremiah Garcia, presiding. The visitation will be from 3PM to 8PM on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, OK.
