Van Walter Owens, Grove resident, died Sunday February 21, 2010 at the age of 87. Van was born on November 18, 1922 in Bingen, Arkansas to his parents, John Walter Dona Bernice (Powers) Owens. Van served his country during WWII in the Army Air Force. He married the love of his life, Jean on December 22, 1943 in Independence, Kansas and they celebrated 59 loving years of marriage until her death in July 2003. Van graduated from OSU in 1952with a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Science and taught Vocational Agriculture in Causey and House, New Mexico then taught in Caddo, Oklahoma before changing careers and working as the county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration. Van was a member of the Lions Club, NARF (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), enjoyed horses, loved to sing, was a long time member of the Methodist Church, as well as a member of the choir. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, eight siblings, and a granddaughter, Bobbie Jean Owens. Van leaves many loving memories with his family, son, Tom Owens and wife Viki, daughter, Donna Higginson; brother, Harry Owens; sister, Edna Truitt; grandchildren, Tim Owens and wife Meghan, Susan Fagan and husband Aaron, Scott Wagner, Amanda Andelin and husband Ben; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Trinity, and Lyla Andelin. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday February 24, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Grove, officiated by Dr. Richard Dayringer and music selections performed by the Grove United Methodist Church Choir. Interment will follow at Olympus Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove.
