Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, (918) 256 - 5555 - Velma Luretta (Hobbs) Bristow-Bennett, 83 year old long time resident of Bluejacket, Oklahoma and formerly of Vinita, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at her home in Bluejacket. Velma was born in Topsy, Oklahoma on December 22, 1931 to her parents Jasper Newton and Bessie Luretta (Smith) Hobbs. As a young girl the family moved to Arizona and later moved back to Oklahoma. Velma married Herman Radford Bristow in July of 1945 and Herman preceded her in death on December 8, 1959 after fourteen years of marriage. As a military family Velma lived in numerous places including; Utah, Massachusetts, California, New Mexico, Chelsea, Oklahoma, Big Cabin, Oklahoma and she later settled in Vinita, Oklahoma and in Bluejacket, Oklahoma for the last twenty years. She retired from the Cinch Factory in Vinita after working there many years. Velma enjoyed mowing and cutting down trees, keeping up with her property, taking walks in the woods, working with wood and building things. She was always best known for taking care of animals and helping other people and she will be missed very much. Preceded in death by her parents; her husband Herman; one infant son, Jimmy Bristow; six brothers, Leonard, Lloyd, Lester "Roy", Lawrence, twin brothers, Granville and Grover Hobbs; two sisters, Elvie Engle; Alma Lyons; and one grandson, Jimmy Bristow; Velma is survived by one son, William David Bristow and wife Joan of New York; three daughters, Holly Faulconer and husband Roy Lee of Vinita; Susan Dalrymple of Kansas; and Katheryn Walker and husband David of Vinita; ten grandchildren, Johnny Bristow, Tracy Bristow, Christopher Bristow, Billy Ray Bristow, Shelly Williams, Susan Hayes, Jason Faulconer, Clinton Walker, Guy Walker, and D. Wade Walker; as well as numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Velma is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, many other family members and friends. Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Big Cabin Cemetery in Big Cabin, Oklahoma with Brother Justin Turner officiating.
