Velora Alspaugh

Our beloved mother, VeLora "Lora" Sherman Alspaugh passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009 at Jane Phillips Medical Center. The daughter of John and Zelma (Ford) Sherman, she was born September 18, 1917 in Rocky, Oklahoma, where they lived until she graduated from Sentinel High School. On April 25, 1936, she was married to William C. Alspaugh. They made their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before moving to Bartlesville in 1956. Lora was a member of Good Shepard Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her association in the Sewing Club for the past 50 years. She was an avid Antique Collector, loved to read, especially about history and genealogy and enjoyed gardening. She will be remembered as one of the most gracious hostesses of all time. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill in 1996, her parents John and Zelma Sherman, five sisters Loyce Jewel Sherman, Naomi Huckaby, Lavern Slocum, Imogene Lupton, Glenna McKay and one brother Orville Sherman. Lora is survived by her children, Barbara Alspaugh Johns, Bartlesville, Ok, Sandra L. Alspaugh and husband Wayne Newport, Nowata, Ok, Dana Alspaugh Price and husband Roger, Tulsa, Ok, Kevin McKay Wentworth, Orange, California and Brad McKay, Norman Ok. Grandchildren, Daniel H. Cline, Jr. and wife Patti, George W. Sparks and wife Helen, William K. Sparks, Sandra Renee Redmond and husband Jeff, Lora Ann Wise and husband Bill, Stacey Ann Smith and husband Don, Christy Lane Kaserman, Travis K. Wentworth, Ryan B. McKay, Kolton W. Wentworth, Michael W. McKay and Bradley K. McKay II. Thirteen great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren. One sister Fern Cain of Orange, Ca, sisters-in-law, Beverly Joyce, Norman, Ok, Jane Lorenz and husband Jim of Thomas, Ok, one brother-in-law Jim Alspaugh and wife Jackie of Oklahoma City, Ok. Her treasured companion Benny, her little Yorkie and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Memorial donations may be made to A.R.F., or the SPCA of Bartlesville, Ok. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Sentinel Cemetery in Sentinel, Ok on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Ann Marie Davis officiating.
