Venoia (Thompson) Wright, 93 year old Spavinaw resident, passed away Friday, January 24, 2014. Venoia was born in Spavinaw on January 3, 1921 to Robert and Maude (Tag) Thompson. She attended Chilocco Indian Agricultural School. She served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. On August 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Wright. Venoia was an extremely independent lady. She ranched until she was 88 years old, and kept horses until she was 90. She also enjoyed traveling and reading western novels. Survivors include her children: Linda Wright of Spavinaw, Billy Wright and wife Karen of Dallas, TX, and Karen Cox-Haymaker of Henneysee, OK, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and sisters Anne Cagel of Idaho and Dee Fields of Spavinaw. She is preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Jack Ribbon Indian Cemetery in Spavinaw with Pastor Gisbert Gebhard officiating.
