Vera Irene Fields, age 93 and longtime Vinita resident, died Friday, February 26, 2010. She was born in Alluwe, OK on January 19, 1917, the daughter of Gulley and Ida Finnell. Vera was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a very strong and independent woman with an amazing work ethic. Even after retirement she worked to get her G.E.D. at the age of 66, then went on to further her skills and get an office job. She also worked for the Senior Companion Program until her 80's. Vera also had a good sense of humor. She enjoyed watching football, horse races, and playing cards and other games. She was of the Christian faith. Vera was an inspiration to her family and leaves behind a legacy not of money but of character. Vera is survived by three children: George Fields and wife Jan of Joplin, Gary Fields and wife Vicki of Baxter Springs, KS, and Janet Catt of Fairland, and, MO, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, son Johnny Fields, siblings Boyd Finnell, Beaulah Icabone, Dora Lee Bluejacket, and Betty Clarkson. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 3-5 p.m. at the Luginbuel Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev.
