Verna Altebaumer

July 24, 1944 — November 21, 2010

Verna Ruth (Walker) Altebaumer, 66 year old Vinita resident, died Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Craig General Hospital in Vinita. She was born on July 24, 1944 in Onapa, Oklahoma to Vernon and Dovie (Carr) Walker. She was a graduate of Checotah High School. Verna married W. J. "Bill" Altebaumer on August 19, 1981 in Tulsa. She was the first woman bus driver for the Broken Arrow School District, also she had formerly worked at KITO Radio in Vinita, and Alliance Data Systems in Tulsa. Verna enjoyed her grandchildren, travelling, reading, writing and home improvement projects. She was a former member of the local Toastmasters Club. The family includes: her husband Bill of the home, her children, Kathy Singleton and husband Kevin of Eufaula, Chris Gawf and wife Shannon of Eufaula, Mike Headrick and wife Christine of Broken Arrow, Roger Headrick and Marianne of Fayetteville, North Carolina, sisters, Mary Headrick of Onapa and Betty Goforth of Tulsa, brother, Larry D. Walker from Panama, Central America; mother in-law Kathryn Altebaumer, fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Ernest Walker, a sister Alma Kritikos, father in-law Ham Altebaumer and a granddaughter of Kaitlyn Singleton. The Memorial service will be held Friday, November 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Ghost Catholic Church Parrish Hall, Pastor Chuck Tankersly officiating.
