Vernon R. "Barney" Barnes Obituary Centralia, OK - Vernon passed away, Friday night, November 30, 2007, at his home in Centralia, after an extended illness; surrounded by his family and friends. Vernon was born August 13, 1935 at Gardener, New York to Howard L. Barnes and Easter Madeline (Gulbrandson) Barnes. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Charlotte. They were married in Patterson, New York on November 9, 1956. They had 51 years of a wonderful and happy life together. Vernon was a teacher and a listener of all knowledge and wisdom. He was blessed with large, helping and giving, hands. His heart was larger than life itself and always opened his heart to all family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte, of the home; a daughter, Cindy Phillippi and her husband Don (Duck) of White Oak, Oklahoma; one son, Robert "Moose" Barnes and his wife, Teresa of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kari, Terri, Jennifer, Donny, Bobby and Bambi and their spouses and several great-grandchildren. Barney was preceded in death by his parents. Barney traveled and worked in construction most of his life, between Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado. He also worked in the oil fields for several years and moved and set up mobile homes. After retirement, he worked for a beloved friend, Randy Henry, operating his dozers. Vernon served in the Korean War, serving two years in Japan and six in the Reserve and was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1962 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Bluejacket Cemetery, Bluejacket, Oklahoma, with Randy Henry eulogizing. Service arrangements are under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita. Vernon's family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, from 6-7 p.m. Friends who wish are asked to donate to the Vinita Cancer Fund, c/o First National Bank, Vinita.
