Vernon Buchanan

January 14, 1931 — August 19, 2010

Vernon L. Buchanan, 79 year old Vinita resident died Thursday August 18, 2010 at Craig General Hospital in Vinita. He was born January 14, 1931 in Woodward, Oklahoma the son of Hobart and Mary "Clodfelter' Buchanan. Vernon attended school and graduated from Pawnee High School, in Pawnee, OK then attended Oklahoma A& M College. He joined the Army National Guard and served in Korea. He attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, School of Banking. The family moved from Tulsa to Vinita in 1972 where he was employed at Oklahoma State Bank where he served as bank president. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Akdar Shrine , Lions Club and was past president of the Oklahoma Independent Bankers Association. Vernon leaves behind his wife Velma of the home, his sons, Mark and Janet Buchanan of Vinita and Greg and Margie Buchanan of Tulsa, OK, grand children include Seth Buchanan, Melissa & Cory Treece, Ashley Buchanan, John and Lisa Riley and a great grand daughter, Jessica Riley. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Hughes Buchanan three brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be Monday August 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. George Gilland officiating with interment to follow in Carselowey Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday August 22 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at honoringmemories.com.
