Vicki Bronson

November 5, 1948 — December 1, 2009

Vicki Norene (Deruy) Bronson was born November 5, 1948, in Oakland, California. Three weeks later she was adopted by Norvelle R. and Darlene E. Deruy of Pittsburg, Kansas. She left this earthly existence on Tuesday, December 01, 2009, after a ten-year long battle against Breast Cancer. Vicki was a 1966 graduate of College High School at Pittsburg, Kansas, attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg, Kansas, and Northeastern State University at Tahlequah, Oklahoma, studying geography and history. She was employed as a sheriff's dispatcher in Crawford County, Kansas, and in Delaware County, Oklahoma. She became a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician. It was during her time at Crawford County Sheriff Department that she met and married Rick Bronson. The two were often fond of telling folks that they had "met in jail", and then enjoyed telling of their workplace romance. They were married on October 2, 1981, at Arma, Kansas, in a wedding officiated by the Sheriff's Chaplain. The couple later made their home in Grove, where they have remained for over 25 years. On December 23, 1997, Vicki and Rick adopted three brothers, Timothy Matthew Bronson, Chad Allen Bronson, and Kenneth Barak Bronson. In 2008, they adopted a daughter, Tirzeh Lynn Gonzales Frey. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Destiny Faith Frey, Grace Victoria Frey, and Caleb James Frey, all of the home. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Robert N. Deruy and his wife, Maxine. Vicki was an avid horse trainer and dog obedience instructor. She and her dogs won many certifications and awards in Kansas and Oklahoma, training and showing Great Danes, German Shepherds and Collies. More recently she helped teach obedience classes at Northeast Oklahoma Kennel Club, and was voted Member of the Year for 2009. She was a certified instructor for Canine Good Citizens, and was active in the READ and Therapy Dog programs. Vicki took great satisfaction in helping other people in their times of need. She volunteered for several years at the Christian HELP Center of Grove. She was a church youth sponsor for nearly 20 years, and was an active member of Delaware Baptist Church. She particularly enjoyed the Christ in Youth summer conferences. Vicki and Rick attended several missionary trips into Mexico, Haiti and Fiji Islands. Vicki's desire to help others is further evidenced by the donation of her body to the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine, in hopes that she might somehow add to the body of knowledge with regard to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Her corneas were donated to the Lions Eye and Tissue Donation program. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northeast Oklahoma Kennel Club, PO Box 7212, Grove, OK 74344 or the Grand Lake Baptist Assembly Capital Improvement Campaign, 1428 W 63 St, Grove, OK 74344. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Delaware Baptist Church, at 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 8, 2009, with Rev. Gary Bishop officiating. The Services are under the directions of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, OK
