Violet Brashear

August 14, 1912 — February 4, 2008

Violet D. Brashear, age 95, a resident of Bartlesville, died Monday morning, February 4, 2008 at Heritage Villa Nursing Center in Bartlesville. Violet Brashear was born to Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Peters on August 14, 1912 in Argonia, Kansas. Early in her life the family moved to Nowata, Ok where she was raised and educated, graduating from the Nowata High School. Violet D. Brashear and Merlin Brashear were united in marriage on October 9, 1933 in Independence, Kansas. They resided in several Oklahoma communities including Nowata, Pryor and Tulsa before moving to Bartlesville in 1949. They lived in Bartlesville where he was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company as a health-physicist and she was employed by J. C. Penney's. In 1965 they were transferred by Phillips to the state of Idaho where he was associated with Idaho Nuclear Corporation and she worked in retail for the Merk Company. They resided there until returning to Bartlesville in 1970 when he took early retirement from the company. Violet worked at J.C. Penny's and Anthony's for several years before she retired. She was an active member of the First Church of God in Dewey where she enjoyed participating in Sunday school activities and quilting. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Brashear is survived by her three children Merlene Winkler and her husband Losson of Bartlesville, Mark Brashear and his wife Debbie of Bartlesville and Kent Brashear and his wife Vicki of Surprize, Arizona, nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Merlin Brashear, parents W.O. and Bertha Peters, three brothers ,Joe Peters, Wayne Peters and Hugh Peters, four sisters, Fern Crisp, Opal Stewart, Doris Anderson, and Theone Pierson. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at the First Church of God in Dewey, with Rev. Tony Siebels officiating. Interment will be on the family plot in Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral home. Friends who wish to pay their respects may call at the Neekamp-Luginbuel Funeral Home two hours prior to the funeral service. Online condolences may be left at www.honoringmemories.com.
