Virginia Stidham

October 31, 1926 — December 4, 2006

Virginia L. Stidham, 80-year-old former Nowata resident, passed away at 12:10a.m., Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa. Virginia L. Stidham was born October 31, 1926 in Hickory, Oklahoma to Henry David Moore and Lonie Welch-Moore. She grew up and attended schools in Hickory. After graduating, Mrs. Stidham went on to attend East Central University where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree. On May 23, 1947, she married Edgar Paul Stidham in Sulphur. Mr. and Mrs. Stidham re-located to several small ranches around the state throughout their married lives together. Each new ranch job brought a new town, however Mrs. Stidham continued her work with the Department of Human Services in each new town they moved to. In addition, each new town brought a new opportunity for Mr. and Mrs. Stidham to stay active in the local 4-H Clubs, and community activities such as "Field Days" and the County Republican Party. Mrs. Stidham and her husband were avid square dancers. Even after her husband's passing, she was known to enjoy attending dances especially with her nephew. Mrs. Stidham loved traveling with her husband on tour trips across the country. She also enjoyed the summer trips to Branson with the grandchildren. Mrs. Stidham always placed a special "focus" on the grandchildren. On September 8, 2003 she reached a new pinnacle when she became a great-grandmother. Mrs. Stidham also enjoyed shopping. She was known to take shopping sprees that would net nearly everyone in the family, in particular the grandkids, the latest in clothing fashion. Several years ago the grandchildren talked her into getting what would become one of her best friends, her dog "Maggie". In March of 2006, Mrs. Stidham and Maggie moved to the Silver Arrow Estates in Broken Arrow. They quickly became the socialites of Silver Arrow as they quickly bonded and formed several friendships. Mrs. Stidham is survived by a daughter, Suzanne and her husband John Burrow of Broken Arrow; by one brother, Harold Moore of Hickory; by two sisters, Wilma Jenkins of Purcell and Freda Little of Sulphur; by two grandchildren, Lindsey Brooke Smith of Broken Arrow and Zackary Paul Burrow of the University of Oklahoma in Norman; and by a great grandchild, Noah Caden Smith. Mrs. Stidham was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Paul Stidham; by a son, Paul Francis Stidham; and by two brothers, Cecil Moore and Clede Moore.
