Walter Eugene Johnston, 80 years old, Grove, Oklahoma resident, passed away Saturday April 16, 2011, following an extended illness. Walter was born on July 16, 1930, in Marion County, Kansas to Clark and Martha (Schlotthauer) Johnston. Walter married Anna Marie May on October 19, 1946, in Salina, Kansas and together they made their home in Newton and Wichita, Kansas. Walter later transferred to Fort Scott, Kansas where he retired after 43 years from Westar Energy (formerly KG&E) as a lineman and then foreman. Walter loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Redfield Ruritan Club, R.O.M.E.O.s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) and a small Christian group, "We Are Doers". Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna, brothers Harold, Lloyd, and Albert, and sisters Ruth, Alice, Edna, Bernice, Helen, and Josephine. Walter is survived by a sister, Elnora Siemans of Salina, KS, son Keith Johnston and wife Debra of McPherson, Kansas, and daughter Nancy Potter and husband Bob, of Grove, Oklahoma. His grandchildren are Kurt Johnston and wife Angie of Shawnee, Kansas, Kyle Johnston and wife Lisa of Overland Park, Kansas, Steven Broers and wife Kristy of Fontanelle, Iowa, and step granddaughters, Regan Cameron and husband John of Osceola, Missouri, and Chelsea Payne and husband Kevin of Moundridge, Kansas. In addition, Walter is survived by nephew Dave May, Wichita, Kansas and niece Sandy May, Las Vegas, Nevada. Walter is also survived by great grandchildren Kole and Kaleigh Johnston, Sophia, Malachi and Micah Broers, Chaz and Tanner Epperson, and Reanna and Ruger Cameron, as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral in Grove, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastmoor Methodist Church in Marion, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church of Grove or Parkinson's Foundation of Oklahoma, in care of the funeral home.
