Wanda Matthews

Wanda Lee Downing Matthews, 94 year long time Vinita resident, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Craig General Hospital. She was born June 3, 1916 in Narcissa, Oklahoma to William Henry "Butch" and Mintie Ethyl (Hill) Fouts. Wanda was married to George Downing they moved to Vinita in the 50's from Locust Grove. George passed away on October 3, 1975. She later married Eli Hugh Matthews; he also preceded her in death on March 9, 2004. Wanda was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church. She enjoyed needle work, crochet and hobby crafts. She had operated an adult care facility in years past in Vinita. The family includes: cousins, Paul Bynum of Springdale, Arkansas, Melanie Brenton of Vinita, Dorothy Bynum of Tulsa and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two husbands. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Oak Baptist Church, with Pastor Leland Bartlett officiating.
