Wanda Norton

February 1, 1932 — January 14, 2013

Wanda Mae Randall Norton 80 year old lifetime Vinitian passed from this life on Monday January 14, 2013 in her home with her daughter by her side. She was born February 1, 1932 in the same house she died in to Jesse Joseph and Mary Ellen (Hubbard) Randall. Wanda was a member of the Vinita High School class of 1950. She was of the Christian faith. Wanda married Rex Eugene "Pete" Norton on June 27, 1948 and the couple has one daughter, Toni Jean Norton Stanley who also resides in Vinita with her husband Steve. Wanda was very active in many civic events in Vinita including Red Cross, Camp Fire Girls, Chamber of Commerce, Vinita Unlimited, Battle of Cabin Creek and her most important activity, Curator of Eastern Trails Museum. Along with the museum some of the other activities that held her interest were gardening, cooking, traveling with Pete, class reunions and visiting friends and relatives. Family was a vital part of Wanda's life. She was the grandmother of Stephanie Jessica Stanley Shaner and Mamie Elizabeth Stanley. Growing up they spent many hours in her home learning about the family and how important that was to her. She was also the great-grandmother to eight children of Stephanie's - Jacob, Alexandra, Benjamin, Lucas, Isaac, Andrew, Meredith, and Tess. Wanda and Pete worked side by side as owners and operators of Randall-Norton Tire Company in Vinita and Norton Rentals for many years. After retiring from the shop and taking care of the rental property Wanda became the curator of the museum and worked tirelessly there for almost 30 years. Other important activities that Wanda participated in was cataloguing Fairview Cemetery and helping publish The Craig County History books. Not many people in the community could quote chapter and verse of the families and businesses from this area better and more accurately than she. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Pete, infant sister Waunita and half brother Howard Stoner. She is survived by her daughter Toni and husband Steve, granddaughters Stephanie and husband Randolph "Chip" Shaner from Kaysville, UT and Mamie Stanley of Grand Lake, eight great-grandchildren and nieces Deborah Stoner Shallin and Margaret Stoner Stitzel and numerous cousins. Wanda was a lover of animals and was "mother" to many dogs and cats in her life. She is also survived by 6 cats, 3 grand dogs and 2 grand cats that she loved.
