Wayne Howard Patteson passed from this life on January 1, 2014 at 12:50 A.M. in Tooele, Utah. He was born August 3, 1971 at 9:30 A.M. in Joplin, Missouri to Virginia Marie Steele Shepherd Patteson and Bennie Wayne Patteson. He was named after his father, Bennie Wayne Patteson, his grandfather, Conner Howard Shepherd, his uncle, David Howard Shepherd, and his uncle Johnny Wayne Shepherd. Wayne was an organ donor. Quoted from Wayne's exact words "My eyes so someone might see, my heart so someone might live, my bone marrow so someone can be cured of cancer, my skin from my back for burn victims." He donated money to ST. Judes and diabetic research for his grandmother. His life was complex and not at all simple. Most people don't realize that a coin actually has three sides, a front, a back, and an edge. Wayne was like that coin. Side one, he was a hard worker and a tireless volunteer. He loved making people happy by laughing and joking around to make them feel better. He would loan them his last dollar or give them the shirt off his back. If you were to ask something of him, he would get it done. Side two, in his personal life, no one knew until it was too late, what burdens he was carrying. He had, over the years, developed a lot of health problems. His burdens were like an ever growing snowball, getting larger and larger. He carried the burdens far too long. It is doubtful that any of us could have carried them as long. Side three, this is the unknown. We will never know everything. Each one of us was touched by his passing, ask why? Why did this happen? Not concerning the details of what happened, but in the larger context of life. It is a hopeless mission to try to answer why, for there is not a response or an answer that would bring any level of satisfaction to the question.
