William Arthur "Bill" Atchley, 78 year-old Spavinaw resident, died at his home on Monday, November 14, 2011. Bill was born November 26, 1933 in Fairland, Oklahoma to John G. and Susan Gertie (Bartley) Atchley. He was a graduate of Pryor High School and a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1956 to 1958 as Private First Class. Bill was married to Geneva Marie (Carman) on September 21, 1973 in Bristow. He worked as a mechanic/service manager for Darr Equipment five years, Harlow Equipment and Albert Equipment for 33 years, retiring in November of 1994. They had lived in Spavinaw since 1982, where he was very active in the Methodist Church, serving as Deacon, on the serving committee, maintenance and church fish fry's. Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. The family includes: his wife Geneva of the home, children, Nita Riddle and husband Butch of Holdenville, Robert Wesley Atchley of Claytonville, Wisconsin, Ronda Walker and husband Michael of Broken Arrow, Robert Wayne Atchley and wife Nancy of Muskogee; grandchildren, Boston, Logan, Daniel and Chris; great-grandchildren, Tarra and Ricky; siblings, Vi Kennett of Tulsa, Marji Griffith of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Dean Atchley of Manassas, Virginia, Ann Rosenthal of Baldwin City, Kansas; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother Stacy Atchley. The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Spavinaw Methodist Church, with Pastor Doyle Carroll officiating. The interment will follow at the Spavinaw -Strang Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Michael Walker, Marvin Hardison, Sonny Hopkins, Daniel Atchley, Casey Hardison and Brad Hammack.
