Funeral services for Bill Mitchell will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Hillside Christian Church with Mr. Ben Killion officiating. Burial will follow at Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service of Nowata. William "Bill" Ray Mitchell (83) of Nowata was born April 28, 1927, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Denzel and Aletha (Blackmer) Mitchell. He passed from this life April 14, 2011, at Jane Phillips Medical Center, in Bartlesville. Bill attended school and graduated at Osawatomie, Kansas. On June 25, 1949 he married the love of his life, Pauline Maxine Brewer, in Osawatomie. They moved to the Nowata and Alluwe area and have made their home here since. Bill was an oil man and worked in all areas of the oil industry. He was also a rancher and really enjoyed working the ranch. He enlisted in the United States Army and was very proud to be a World War II veteran and grateful for the opportunities to serve his country. Bill, a man of exceptional faith, was an active member of Hillside Christian Church for over 57 years. In addition to taking care of the horses and cattle on his ranch, Bill enjoyed fishing and spending his time helping others. Bill was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. Strong, selfless, and vigorous, he will be missed by all. Preceding Mr. Mitchell in death are his parents, and one brother. Survivors include his wife Pauline, of the home in Nowata, one son Randy Ray Mitchell, and his wife Clara Sue, of Warner, Oklahoma, a granddaughter, Dr. Cassie Mitchell of Atlanta, Georgia, three sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
